taken to court. but the f.b.i. shot down claims that anyone was in custody, and it issued a statement that said, in part: the bureau also put off an afternoon briefing, citing a bomb scare that forced everybody out of the courthouse. earlier, the f.b.i. released photos of remnants of the bombs made out of pressure cookers and the black nylon bags that concealed them. one of the pressure cooker lids was catapulted to a nearby rooftop. and investigators kept sifting the crime scene for more clues today. all three people killed in the bombings have now been identified-- eight-year old martin richard, 29-year-old krystle campbell and lu lingzi, a chinese graduate student at boston university. last night, neighbors and friends of martin richard and his family held a candlelight vigil near a baseball diamond and field where he used to play. >> everybody knows them, everybody loves them. it's just unthinkable, you know, anybody's little boy, was our little boy. >> reporter: boston common was the site of another vigil last night. several hundred turned out to sing and pay tribute to those k

federal acts from the f.b.i. -- agents from the f.b.i., homeland security and a list of other agencies conducted searches of some nearby buildings looking for clues and possible suspects. three people, including an 8- year-old boy, were killed in the explosions. more than a hundred other people are injured. >> the explosions went off about 15 seconds apart and were about 100 yards from each other. more than a dozen people remain hospitalized in critical condition. president obama vowed to find those responsible for the bombings and to bring them to justice. the president never mentioned the word terrorism but the fbi is treating the explosions as a terror act. no group so far has claimed responsibility for the blasts. >>> cities around the country have increased police patrols in light of these bombings. the secret service has spannedded its security perimeter on the white house as well. and police in london are getting very strict with their security because the london marathon is coming up this sunday. >> wusa9's delia goncalves is live in the satellite center with more on the respon

the bombs exploded. an f.b.i. press conference scheduled for 5:00 p.m. was postponed due to a bomb scare. as of this taping the press conference hasn't taken place. here's a report from the cbs news with scott pelley. >> reporter: sources say investigators are trying to identify a person identified as a young white man who was scene in the crowd near the second bombing before the device exploded. a surveillance camera at a nearby lord & taylor department store captured images of the man who was carrying a backpack and talking on a cell phone. sources say he was wearing a black jacket, gray hoodie and a white baseball cap which was backwards on his head. investigators say the man-- who seemed to be alone-- put the backpack on the ground. then when the first explosion occurred at the finish line about a hundred yards down boylston street, he took off. just a few seconds later, the second bomb exploded near where the man had been standing. investigators now are going through cell phone logs to determine who made calls from that location near the time of the explosions. sources say the f.b.i

miller is a former deputy director of the f.b.i. he's joining us right now. john, you've been talking to your law enforcement sources all afternoon. what do you know? >> well, either things are going really well or this is going to be very challenging and that hangs on this individual they have in custody. so let's go back over that. how does this happen? it happens that the first device goes off, the second device goes off and somebody who's noticed this individual saw him acting in a way that they thought was suspicious. they see him running away from the device. now, a reasonable person after an explosion would be rubbing away. but this person had noticed them before. this is a civilian, now. chases him down, tackles him, turns him over to the boston police. the individual who is being looked at was suffering from a burn injury. that means that person was pretty close to wherever this blast went off but not so close as to suffer the serious injuries that other people did. he is in custody. authorities tell me he's being fully cooperative means he's answering all their questions, he
